Every month, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) releases a lengthy list of albums and singles that have earned new certifications, meaning that those pieces of music have "gone" gold, platinum or perhaps even multi-platinum or diamond, though such success doesn't happen very often. Diamond certifications—awarded to those works that have shifted at least 10 million equivalent copies between pure sales and streaming—are reserved for the biggest and most successful albums and songs, while more than one of these rare plaques means an artist is truly a legend.
As of the end of February, there are now 22 artists that have moved at least 10 million copies of more than one album in their discography. The latest to join the club is, somewhat surprisingly, Michael Jackson, whose album Bad has just earned its diamond certification after just under 3o years. The late, great icon also earned another plaque this month, as his biggest title, Thriller, was certified 33-times platinum, pushing the bar even higher when it comes to the bestselling and most popular album of all time.
这里也指出,钻石专辑指的是由美国RIAA认证的专辑,其他都不作数(实销够但没认证也不算),认证看的是专辑的出货量,但卖没卖完未知,所以不同于实销。
